Latest Projects

After I completed my giant Derpy (which is still for sale, feel free to contact me or check out my Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/munchforlunch) I made a regular sized Fluttershy.  Then I hit a question.

Do I make:
- ninja Rainbow Dash
- the spa sisters
- Rarity with butterfly wings
- Luna
???  Ahhh!  So many cool ponies to make!  Well, I have the fabric for the spa sisters, but I'm still struggling with my new embroidering machine.  So I decided to make Ninja Rainbow Dash!

She's for sale on eBay here.  I'm actually going to take a break from ponies and get a few commissions done, mainly some sleepy sheep for my mother-in-law and two scarves for my mom and sister.

The importance of advertising

Yesterday I learned a very important lesson.  If you're offering something for sale, you need to advertise.  The biggest difference between those who sell their product for a lot of money and those that don't? (Besides quality, I mean)  It's number of views.

I had spent a lot of time putting together a pattern to make ponies from My Little Pony.  There were no commercially available patterns, and the few free patterns available had obvious flaws.  Based on what I observed with Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon, a market was there. Hasbro released very poor quality plush, the show was wildly popular, and people wanted toys.  A pattern lets a lot of people make their own plush for kiddos, friends, or themselves.

So I made a tutorial, added lots of pictures, explained all the details.  I mentioned it on my DeviantArt, where I post all my finished products.  Then I uploaded it to Etsy.

And sold 4 in two weeks.

There is another wonderful lady on DA who also made a pattern. She released hers last night and had sold 24 in the first 2 hours.  Why?  She spent the last few months posting about her pattern.  She posted all her WIPs and linked her shop.  Her journal was nothing but pattern progress.  And then two big-wigs in the MLP community found her stuff and gave her free advertising.

Am I jealous?  Hell yeah.  Am I bitter?  A bit, yeah.  But I've always learned it's OK to have emotions, what matters is how you respond to them. So you know what?

I've listed a pony pattern AND tutorial, complete with pictures, to my Etsy shop! http://www.etsy.com/shop/munchforlunch
Check out some of the awesome ponies I've made with this pattern!  And hey, it's cheaper than the competition!  Not to mention I'm releasing patterns for the mane and tail of the main characters, which so far isn't available anywhere.

And hey, Derpy's for sale here!

Mmmm, ponies

So after seeing so many plush ponies based on the tv show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, I started watching the show myself.  It's actually quite good, and I was expecting very little from it.  I like the variety of characters and the cool coloring and mane/tail styles.

I've already made three separate patterns for ponies: regular, long and tall, and filly.  I think of all of it, I actually like developing and testing my pattern the best.  I haven't been able to make more than one or two of a particular pattern before I charge off on another idea.

While I don't claim to be as talented as some of the folks out there, I have put some of my work out on eBay.  Check it out!
Rarity as a pegasus: $15
Wedding dress Rarity: $125
Filly Princess Luna: ongoing
Princess Celestia: ongoing
I'm really hopeful these two auctions will net me enough to buy a working sewing machine.  I've been manually cranking the drive shaft of my old machine because the motor is shot, but my fingers can't take much more of the strain.  I'm developing some crazy calluses, but that's not really why I'm driven to sew :p.

I've also gotten two commissions, such as they are (still working out details).  I'm so excited, I love being able to come home and do something that's so much fun, make money, and make others happy all at the same time.  Talk about the best hobby ever.  So yeah, if you know any huge MLP fans who might be interested in a plush, email me!  We can probably work something out :).
